Magento HSBC 3D Secure Payment Gateway
Originally developed by Visa as Verified by Visa and since followed by MasterCard, 3D Secure is an additional layer of security for online credit card and debit card transactions. Each cardholder will create a password which is connected with the card. When an online transaction is in process, the cardholder will be redirected to a third-party site representing the Card Issuing Authority, and asked for this password to authenticate the online transaction.
As a online merchant without 3D Secure, if a fraudster orders products from you, and you unintentionally send it off, you are liable for this fraudulent transaction. This is the case even if the transaction is fully authorised by the CVV Number. When the legitimate cardholder complains that a fraud has taken place and demands a chargeback you must return the money paid to you as part of the transaction. However, if you have used 3D Secure to authorise the transaction you will not be liable in the case of a fraud. Your products are gone - but you keep the money paid for them.
At Magento Powered, we will be rolling out our Magento HSBC 3D Secure Payment Gateway later this Summer. The module will allow the customer to stay on the website throughout the entire checkout process and offer a 3D Secure element - which is not supported by any HSBC Magento modules currently available.
